Duvetyne Roll Calculator

Work out how many rolls of duvetyne you need. Enter the size of the wall, masking or backdrop you are covering, and the calculator turns it into cuts, yards and whole rolls of our 51" × 65 yd ECO Duvetyne.

Total run of the wall, masking or backdrop.

Finished height of each piece.

Vertical is usual for masking and backdrops.

Gathered looks use more fabric width.

Added to every cut length. Set 0 for raw edges.

For example, 2 matching side walls = 2.

How the duvetyne roll calculator works

Each roll of ECO Duvetyne is 130 cm (51") wide and 65 yards (195 ft) long. For vertical drops, the calculator divides your width (times the look factor) into 51" strips, then makes each strip as long as your height plus the hem allowance. It counts how many of those cuts fit end to end on one 195 ft roll, and rounds up to whole rolls. Horizontal hanging works the same way with width and height swapped.

It counts whole cuts per roll, so short offcuts at the end of a roll are not assumed to be usable. That is why the yards you use can be well below the yards you buy. The "Leftover" figure shows what remains on your last roll.

Quick reference: one roll at common heights

Flat vertical drops, no hem allowance, worked from the 51" × 65 yd roll size:

24 drops8 ft high · about 102 ft wide
19 drops10 ft high · about 80 ft wide
16 drops12 ft high · 68 ft wide
12 drops16 ft high · 51 ft wide
9 drops20 ft high · about 38 ft wide

One roll holds about 829 square feet of fabric (4.25 ft × 195 ft) before cutting. Seams, hems and gathering all reduce what you can cover, so use the calculator for a real job.

Things that change the count

Seams. Masking wider than 51" means joining strips. If you sew or overlap seams, add that overlap to your width before you calculate.

Gathering. A gathered drape at 2× uses twice the width of fabric. Flat is normal for masking, blackout and theater blacks. Gathered is a look choice for backdrops.

Hems and pockets. A pipe pocket or a sewn hem at top and bottom adds length to every cut. The allowance field adds it for you.

Colour. Choose black duvetyne for masking, blackout and hiding equipment, or white duvetyne for bounce and light diffusion. Both are the same 51" × 65 yd roll.

Frequently asked questions

How many yards are in a roll of duvetyne?

Our ECO Duvetyne rolls are 65 yards (195 feet) long and 130 cm (51") wide.

How many square feet does a roll of duvetyne cover?

About 829 square feet of fabric before cutting (4.25 ft × 195 ft). The area you can actually cover is lower once you allow for seams, hems and whole-cut lengths, which the calculator accounts for.

How many drops of duvetyne can I cut from one roll?

Divide 195 ft by your cut length and round down. At 10 ft high with no hem allowance that is 19 drops, and at 16 ft it is 12 drops.

Is the duvetyne flame retardant?

Yes. Our ECO Duvetyne is certified to NFPA 701 and CAN/ULC-S109. See is duvetyne flame retardant for what that means for venues and fire marshals.
